Earlybird.
There are some mornings when I don’t feel like a crazy person, getting up before 5:00 in the morning for work. Sometimes I’ve gotten enough sleep, and by the time I’ve had my eggs and green tea, instead of feeling displaced, I feel morally superior to those in the world who are lazy enough to sleep in till 6:30 or 7:00. Sometimes the elderly man who lives next door gets up when I do and we see each other through our kitchen windows. We exchange nods and I go out into the dark, misty morning. Today, I wasn’t even seized by the usual urge to get into my car and just keep driving. Life felt like it had purpose and order.
P.S. Apparently Blogger's updated the way comments work, so you don't have to have a Blogger account in order to make a comment. This is good, since most of you do not share my propensity to rant on in a self-absorbed nature on the internet. I'll find out more about this and maybe make the Comment feature active again on this site if it looks worthwhile.
